Government undertook a review of the National Industrial Policy 2008 to keep up with the emerging industrial developments. This resulted in preparation of a new industrial policy for the country. The goal of the National Industrial Policy 2020 is to double the manufacturing value added as a percentage of GDP from the 8.3 percent in 2018/19 to 16 percent in 2029/30 and increase industry sector contribution to GDP from 27.1 percent in 2018/19 to 31.7 percent in the next 10 years. The policy was developed along with the 5-year National Industrial Development Strategic Plan to provide strategic direction propelling Uganda to a modern and prosperous country by 2040.
