Solar-Powered Irrigation to Beat Climate Change, Improve Fortunes of Farmers in Uganda

With the aim of empowering communities and farmers in districts vulnerable to drought and climate variability to cope with climate change and improve their farming outcomes, government installed the first solar-powered irrigation system in Kalungu district from Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) under Uganda’s Climate Change Programme.

Construction of Mpondwe Export Zone and One Stop Border Post (OSBP) is a project funded by the World Bank through Great Lakes Trade Facilitation Project whose objective is to facilitate cross-border trade by increasing the capacity of commerce and reducing the costs faced by traders.

Construction of the OSBP was officially launched on 11th March, 2021 through a ground breaking ceremony officiated by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives.

Uganda Airlines Flies Further With Its Brand-New A330neo

Uganda’s Flag Bearer, Uganda Airlines, received its second Airbus A330-800 neo in February 2021. Uganda placed an order for two A330-800neos in 2019 as part of its ambitious plans to expand beyond the continent. This brought the number to a fleet of six aircrafts – two A330s and       four CRJ-900s. The A330 is in a three-class configuration – business, premium economy, and economy – with 20, 28 and 210 seats respectively.

Uganda Cancer Institute transformed into an East African Centre of Excellence in Oncology

Government has transformed the Uganda Cancer Institute into an East African Centre of Excellence in Oncology to offer specialized services, handling over 40 types of cancer in a bid to advance the Institute into a comprehensive cancer management center in Africa. This will reduce external medical tourism, saving the country from exorbitant expenditures and a foreign exchange loss subsequently improving the Balance of Payment position.

Government Rolls Out Three New Smart Business Solutions Under The ‘KAKASA You Are In Charge’, to Enhance Domestic Revenue Mobilization

These business solutions included: (i) Digital Tracking Solution (DTS) which will quality assure authenticity of the gazetted products on the market; (ii) Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS) aimed at increasing domestic revenue mobilization through improving taxpayer record-keeping for accurate and faster tax assessments; and (iii) voluntary disclosure extended to taxpayers to do a thorough tax self-health check to clean their tax accounts with URA without being fined or penalized.
